An Eastside start-up company with an unusual name could see its moniker soon become a household one, thanks to some celebrity customers.
As in Suri Cruise, the baby daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and Zahara Jolie-Pitt, the 1-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Both own shoes made by Woodinville-based See Kai Run, a company that was founded two years ago by owners Cause Haun, a 1988 Renton High School graduate, and her husband, Chen Gang.
The company is named after the couple's oldest child, Kai, who will be 4 next month.
Haun — who in high school went by the last name Glick but later decided to change it to her mother's maiden name — got the idea to start the company after becoming frustrated with the lack of choices in shoes in this country for infants and toddlers.
Haun, 36, wanted shoes for Kai that could be comfortable and "hip" — and affordable.
The choices, according to Haun, were pretty much either comfortable, but decidedly unstylish, soft booties or traditional but also un-hip white stiff-soled crib shoes.
"If you wanted something hip that appealed to my generation, you had to spend a lot of money, $100 or more," for designer shoes that also generally came only in the stiff-sole variety, Haun said. Source: Kings County Journal
